Medicinal rhubarb. A large perennial from China and Tibet, growing to 1.5 m (5 ft) across and 2 m (6 ft) high with very large leaves. Grow in any moist, well-drained soil in sun or shade. Makes a good ground covering plant, and the leaf stalks are edible in the same way as ordinary rhubarb; the roots are used medicinally. Hardy to -15ºC.
