After 10-15 years, it bears cones with large edible seeds – the most important source of pine kernels for commerce. The shoot tips are used to make a tea, while the timber is used for construction, joinery etc. Likes a sunny site and is happy in much of Britain; hardy to about -15°C. Stratification: CS0-4.
