The waxy covering of the fruit can be melted off and used to make aromatic candles and soaps. Makes a good informal hedge; also a bee plant. A good nitrogen-fixing understorey plant. Dioecious; likes a moist, acid or neutral soil and tolerates considerable shade; hardy to -15°C. Stratification: dewax+CS4. Number of seeds: 10.
