Tree lupin. A small or medium sized evergreen shrub from California, naturalised in S.England. Grows to 3 m (10 ft) high within a few years; relatively short-lived. An excellent nitrogen-fixing legume species, very wind hardy and good in hedges and windbreaks. Also a bee plant, dune stabiliser and the flowers yield a yellow dye. Likes a slightly acid soil and full sun; hardy to about -12°C. Stratification: SC. Number of seeds: 40.
