Juniper. The well known evergreen shrub which yields the edible fruit used in gin. A variable shrub to 5m (16 ft) high, though often lower, the fruits are used for flavouring. Also used as a nurse shrub and in hedges, and the foliage is used to smoke hams and cheeses. Dioecious, so both sexes are needed for fruit. Hardy to -35°C. Stratification: WS13+CS13.
