Wintergreen. A dense, low growing, creeping evergreen shrub from Eastern North American woodlands growing 12 cm (5) high. Has leathery, glossy green leaves, pinky white flowers in summer and red fruits, 8 mm or more across. All parts are wintergreen flavoured and medicinal, containing aspirin-type compounds. Bees love the flowers. Likes acid soil, shade and tolerates dry conditions once established. Hardy to -25°C.
