Factsheet S68: Symphytum – the comfreys

£1.00

Myoga, also called myoga ginger, mioga ginger or Japanese ginger, belongs in the same family as true ginger, with the Latin name Zingiber mioga.
Myoga is a widely used vegetable in Japan and China, and increasingly in Australia and New Zealand where cultivation was introduced a few years ago. Unlike true ginger, it is not the rhizome that is used, rather it is the young shoots and also the young flower buds which are used. The rhizome and mature parts of the plant are not edible – indeed they are regarded as toxic.
