The Rumex family consists of some 200 species of annual, biennial and perennial plants (occasionally shrubs), usually with stout and deep roots or rhizomes. They originate from most regions or the world and the weedy dock members are well known to most people. Several species have edible leaves, the sorrels being acid and lemony.
