Factsheet S28: The Poplars
Poplars have been useful to humans and cultivated since historical times. They are fast growing, easily propagated, and can be grown on many types of sites the forests as well as in more open landscapes. They serve as an excellent source of a wide range of wood products, especially in temperate zones. Poplars also play a significant role in environmental protection and improvement, especially in protecting land from wind and flood erosion, in remedying contaminated groundwater, and in the safe disposal of sewage sludge.
