Chinese/ Cathay Quince. A shrub from central China, growing to a height of 2.5 m (8 ft). Any soil or position in sun or shade. Like others of this family, it bears aromatic fruits which are very large – 10-15 cm (4-6) long – and can be eaten cooked (they make a good lemony jelly). The fruits are freely produced in Britain and ripen in warm summers. Also a bee plant. Hardy to about -20ºC. Stratification: CS13. Number of seeds: 10.
