Needs a moist, sunny position in Britain, where fruits are produced in good summers. The bark and leaves are pesticidal and medicinal, while the stringy inner bark has been used for fishing lines. Grows 4 m (13 ft) high in 10 years; hardy to around -20°C. Seeds and plants are from improved fruiting cultivars. Stratification: CS13. Number of seeds: 5.
