Chocolate vine. A climber form China and Japan, growing up to 10 m (32 ft) high; semi-evergreen with fragrant flowers. The seed pods it produces in good summers contain a delicious chocolate-like edible pulp, while the young shoots are edible raw or pickled. Leaves are used to make a tea. Stems are sometimes used for basketry. Prefers a sunny site; hardy to -23°C. White-flowered variety.
