Ordering Information

We send plants (in late autumn/winter) and seeds to the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. But no longer to the EU or Northern Ireland due to Brexit. Books are unaffected by Brexit and can be sent to EU. If you are in the EU we recommend a few good EU-based nurseries here.

Our plant nursery cycle means that most plants go live online to buy from early August onwards, for delivery November to March. By March they will all be sold out, and we spend the growing season replenishing stocks. We also grow a summer and  Mediterranean plant selection available to buy June/July.

About our plants and seeds

We don’t use any chemical pesticides or herbicides to grow our plants, and none of our seeds have any chemical treatments applied.

We are not certified organic even though our practices are beyond organic in terms of sustainablility; and organic certification itself does not ensure sustainability (for example, our systems are carbon negative, storing more carbon that we emit.)

Delivery method and charges – autumn/winter list

Packing: We send orders in boxes of fixed size. Therefore plants may be trimmed back to fit sometimes.

Delivery (winter): We send to the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man only. (Due to Brexit, we no longer send to the EU or Northern Ireland). We send plants out in the dormant season: the best time of year to be planting. We are carbon-negative organisation, we store more carbon on our sites than we emit from all sources, including the carbon emitted by delivery companies delivering plants, books, seeds etc. For plants we use biodegradeable packaging.

On ordering, your order will go into a queue for delivery between November and March – we’ll give you an estimate of delivery period. We can only send to “proper” postcoded addresses – not to fields, gateways, parks etc. Most UK orders will be sent by carrier although we cannot guarantee either the day or time of delivery – if you are not in then the plants will be left somewhere safe. It is essential we are given a telephone number to pass onto the courier so they can contact you if necessary.

Collection: plants orders can be collected by arrangement. Choose ‘collection of plants’ in the checkout options.

Basic Delivery Charges

Basic delivery charge for most of mainland England, Wales, lowland Scotland: 12.5% of order value (minimum delivery charge £27.00)

If you’re wondering why delivery charges are at the level they are, it is because very few couriers accept plants at all and the ones that do are not cheap; and none will insure them so if they damage them there is no recompense. They also charge a lot extra for longer parcels!

If you only want a few small perennial plants (not shrubs or trees) a small delivery rate may apply – please contact us for a postage quote.

You can order seeds online, alternatively you can fax, phone or post orders.

We pride ourselves in supplying seeds which are fresh, viable, and should germinate well, given the right pre-treatment. Many are harvested by us from our own plants. All our seeds are stored in cold, dry conditions to make sure their chances of germination are maximised; none have been treated with fungicides or other chemicals.

We now only send seeds to the UK.

Postage and packing is £4.50 per order.

We aim to have the most comprehensive range of fruit and nut plants in Europe. If there is something you want in the way of edible or useful plants that we don’t list, do get in touch – we occasionally have very small numbers of plants which are not listed, or we can sometimes propagate to order.
