Ordering Information

We send plants to the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. But no longer to the EU due to Brexit. Books are unaffected by Brexit and can be sent to EU. Seeds may be affected (see below) although currently we are still sending.

We are sold out for the 20/21 winter season – full stocks of plants available again late autumn 2021 (ordering will go live in July).

About our plants and seeds

We don’t use any chemical pesticides or herbicides to grow our plants, and none of our seeds have any chemical treatments applied.

We are not certified organic even though most of our practices are organic. In fact most of our practices are beyond organic; and organic certification itself does not ensure sustainability (for example, our systems are carbon negative, storing more carbon that we emit.)

Delivery method and charges

Packing: We send orders in boxes of fixed size. Therefore plants may be trimnmed back to fit sometimes.

Delivery: We send to the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man only. (Due to Brexit, we no longer send to the EU or Northern Ireland). We send plants out in the dormant season: the majority of our plants are field grown and sold bare-rooted, which is more ecologically-sound than growing everything in pots. We are carbon-negative organisation, we store more carbon on our sites than we emit from all sources, including the carbon emitted by delivery companies delivering plants, books, seeds etc. For plants we use biodegradeable packaging.

On ordering, your order will go into a queue for delivery between November and March – we’ll give you an estimate of delivery period. We can only send to “proper” postcoded addresses – not to fields, gateways, parks etc. Most UK orders will be sent by carrier although we cannot guarantee either the day or time of delivery – if you are not in then the plants will be left somewhere safe. It is essential we are given a telephone number to pass onto the courier so they can contact you if necessary.

Cancellation of plant orders: Please note, that after November 1st, plant orders that are cancelled will receive an 80% refund; and after 31st December, no refund. This is because the plants have been reserved for you and it is increasingly likely as the winter season progresses that we will be unable to re-sell the plants hence we will entail losses on the order.

Basic Delivery Charges

It costs us the same to send one tree or ten, and most couriers do not want to transport either plants or long parcels, so we don’t have much choice.

Basic delivery charge for most of mainland England, Wales, lowland Scotland: 12.5% of order value (minimum delivery charge £21.00)

If you only want a few small plants a small delivery rate may apply – please email us for a postage quote.

Delivery charges elsewhere

Isle of Wight as above + £7.00; Central London surcharge  as above + £2.00.
Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Scottish Highlands & Islands*, Scilly Isles: 20% of order value (minimum delivery charge £36.00)

(* Postcodes this applies to are: IV, HS, KA27-28, KW, PA20-49, PA60-78, PH17- 26, PH30-44, PH49-50, ZE. )

A note on fireblight buffer zone status

This status allows a nursery like ours to send plants which are susceptible to the disease fireblight to countries and regions free of the disease. Our nursery now has this status, meaning we can send Apples, pears, quinces, juneberries etc. to fireblight free zones.

We are carbon-negative organisation, we store more carbon on our sites than we emit from all sources, including the carbon emitted by delivery companies delivering plants, books, seeds etc.

Postage is 30% of books total for UK orders (min £4.50, max £15) , 65% for air mail EU & European orders (min £8) and 100% for air mail overseas orders (min £9).

If you are ordering plants as well as publications in the off-season, you will have to option to choose when you want your order to be shipped. Either directly, or later when the plants become available.

We are carbon-negative organisation, we store more carbon on our sites than we emit from all sources, including the carbon emitted by delivery companies delivering plants, books, seeds etc.

You can order seeds online, alternatively you can fax, phone or post orders.

We pride ourselves in supplying seeds which are fresh, viable, and should germinate well, given the right pre-treatment. Many are harvested by us from our own plants. All our seeds are stored in cold, dry conditions to make sure their chances of germination are maximised; none have been treated with fungicides or other chemicals.

We can send seeds anywhere as long as there are no import restrictions and that no phytosanitory certificate is needed – please make sure you are allowed to import the seeds you are ordering, as we take no responsibility for seeds being refused entry by customs or agriculture officials. We are still sending orders of seeds to the EU, however some EU customs (Portugal) are demanding phyto certificates even for small orders! Again, we cannot be held responsible for any hold-ups by EU customs officials.

We cannot send seeds to the USA as they require a phyto certificate.

We can send seed orders to Canada (small quantities do not need import permits), but you will need to check you are allowed to import those species (the list of exclusions includes Berberis, Mahonia, Prunus and Rhamnus seeds.) Click here to see the import regulations for seeds for Canada.

We can send seed orders to Australia and New Zealand, but note that both have strict quarantine requirements and may exclude some species (see https://www.agriculture.gov.au/import/online-services/bicon and https://www.epa.govt.nz/everyday-environment/importing-plants-and-seeds/).

Postage is £4.50 for UK orders; £8.00 for European overseas orders (up to £50 in value) / £14 (sent tracked for orders over £50 in value); £8.00 for other overseas orders (up to £50 in value) / £16 (sent tracked for orders over £50 in value)

We aim to have the most comprehensive range of fruit and nut plants in Europe. If there is something you want in the way of edible or useful plants that we don’t list, do get in touch – we occasionally have very small numbers of plants which are not listed, or we can sometimes propagate to order.
