Factsheet P17: Squirrels

£1.00

The grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) was introduced to Britain in the 19th century and has spread widely, especially in lowland areas with broadleaved and mixed woodlands. Don’t confuse the grey squirrel with the native (to UK) red squirrel (S.vulgaris). The latter causes little damage to trees, but is being displaced by the grey squirrel.
